Wanting to move from sky to zen

So the time has come to move from sky

im on sky talk at the moment with fibre

but the question is how smooth would this be i don't mind taking line rental with zen thats fine

is there anything i need to know before i sign up?

would there be a delay in my services as its MPF > SMPF (or i'm wrong here)

also what router is supplied or isnt there one? i don't mind buying my own.

is self install avalible also?

I have a few answers for you...

you do not have to take Line rental, but you getter a better deal if you do, there packages are set out that way.

also what router is supplied or isnt there one

, there is no router supplied as standard. they have them for sale, you might be able to use the one from sky but i think you would have to update the firmware on it as Sky lock there modems down.

is self install avalible also?

Self install is not currently an option with Zen, but i was guess as you already have a FTTC modem an engineer visit would not be required.

I was under the impression (and maybe someone can confirm this) that once you have moved a line to Sky, the only way to get back to BT (or an ISP like Zen that uses BT infrastructure) is a cease and re-provide eg. it's like a brand new installation. And I believe that also means the existing landline number will be lost and a new one provided.

That isn't the case at all. I've moved from Sky LLU to Zen FTTC in the last month and it was done it 2 stages

1) Move from Sky LLU to a standard ADSL product with Zen
2) As soon as transferred to standard ADSL with Zen an order was placed for Zen FTTC.

I've kept my original telephone number and the whole process took about a Month, with about 10 mins of downtime for the 2 changes

Without knowing what you speed and hardware was previously, what was the point of your post?

Yep, some thread which aired extensively a year ago.

All I would say is that Zen doesn't seem all that proactive in fixing the obvious to make an improvement if they have to put too much, or any, effort into an issue. The more knowledgeable you are on networking, the more frustrated you are likely to be in getting Zen to act.

It seems to me that all ISPs have peaks and troughs of excellence and maybe a year on yesterdays problems would have been dealt with differently. Who can say.

My Zen test (just done) has pretty much the same results as your Sky test.

We're quite close to our FTTC can and our line sync speed are 90Mb down and 31Mb up. I guess both Zen's and Sky's back haul can cope with FTTC. After that the differentiators are things like price, reliability and customer service.
