On looking at my TBB BQM data this morning I note that there was a sudden latency change at roughly 1am today, this seems to be that my PPP session is now terminating on a Zen Telehouse gateway in London rather than one in Manchester
http://www.thinkbroadband.com/ping/share/54ec5655d79...
I see that sometime around 9am the minimum and average latency has become very variable and much worse than normal (I have had stable average latency of 18ms or so for months).
It's possibly due to differences between the capacity of links from Telehouse vs those in Zen's main data centre, but is this normal or just down to Wimbledon etc?
Thoughts anyone, especially Zen staff...?

Sudden changes at around midnight - 1:00am and latency rise at breakfast time happening her also - But wholesal TTB ....... Must be catching lol

I was seeing latency issues going through losubs.subs.dsl4.th-lon.zen.net.uk, bouncing the PPP session I ended up on losubs.subs.dsl1.th-lon.zen.net.uk and things seem to be back to 'normal'.

Hiccups just after midnight and raised latency at breakfast time seems to be a fact of fibre for some. Same for me with resold TTB.

I suspect it's related to this planned work coming up on the 3rd.

I suspect it's related to this planned work coming up on the 3rd.
Good spot, I knew about the maintenance but not about the re-routing prior to it starting.
Things seem to have calmed down this morning, another PPP drop in the early hours and then much calmer latency peaks with a small further reduction in minimum latency.

could be worse like mine.
From Derby to Manchester then to Leeds then down to London all adding needless 10ms+ onto my line.

Yeah I would say not as good as it used to be especially on adsl. TBH for the first time in years I am genuinely thinking of trying someone else.

Same, Zen just isn't worth the premium over other providers now, I'm getting over 20ms to bbc (used to be 8ms) on a clean line, not interleaved as my first hop is still 7ms.
I got a better ping on my 2mb DSL connection.

Out of interest, what problems is this causing you?

I don't see why I should have a ping of over 20ms on a clean fibre line and pay a premium for it. That's what bothers me.
But it's ok, I'm getting 1GBS in a few weeks..

Anyone thought that their issue may be with BT Wholesale links rather than Zen...
I'm getting Zen soon on their LLU... Want to get away from using BT Wholesale network...

oh ok, any chance you could do a traceroute to bbc to see where the issue is?

So the only problem you have is you don't like it? It's not causing you any actual issues?
I'm genuinely interested in why it is a problem.
|
|

Oh that's not good...
Have you approached Zen about this routing and the delays it adds.
Who knows, maybe this maintenance they're about to do on Manchester might remove one of those steps.

Morning all,
One of links has had an issue of late, so the routing has been amended. Work is currently underway to resolve the issue and then the routing will be amended again.

DSL4 issues for me are still occurring, MTR above, mouselike graph below. Tried bouncing the PPP session, always end up back on dsl4 at the moment:

Have cancelled the proposed migration of my 2nd FTTC line to Zen, embarrassing to say it but BT is/was better it seems (I've spoken to Zen more times in 10 days, then I spoke to BT in 3 years). My 2nd line on BT is rock solid at 18-20ms to BBC, this 1st line (now Zen) was also for 3 years.

An observation, since the Andy Murray game has finished latency has started to come down - still bouncing around a bit, but it is starting to come back towards the 20ms or so that I've seen with BT - my feeling, is that this is almost certainly a saturation/contention issue more than likely caused by Wimbledon streaming or associated traffic.

Just a call back from Zen - finally from a chap who understands what he is talking about and how to deliver customer service - apparently there was work done on DSL4 last night, shortly after 2am, things are much improved so far today for me. However, I guess we'll see when there is another high profile streaming event - i.e next Murray game etc.
