Zen upgrade - router change needed ?

[link to this post]

I'm in the process of upgrading to fibre and have received my Fritz box .

Please excuse my technical ignorance, but do I actually have to use this box, or can I just stick with my Netgear N300 / DGN2200 ?

Fibre? VDSL2 (FTTC) or Fibre to the Premises?

The Netgear N300 does not have a VDSL2 modem built into it, so if its VDSL2 you would need a modem and the N300 is so old and slow wireless wise that an upgrade is worth while.

Does the N300 have an Ethernet WAN port, not sure but even if it did would not trust its CPU to handle the PPPoE plus extra traffic compared to ADSL2+

Thanks for the answer - I'm going FTTC so I guess I'll be using the Fritz. Wish me luck !!

Fritz!Boxes are excellent pieces of kit. There is a lot of advice/guides on the AVM website. Use the Advanced Tab to see a lot of data about your connection.
