3times so far today hit with packet loss and increased latency and poor to no throughput during the times of packet loss, the problem appears to be with Zen's Gateway or one of the 2 @Manchester lo1.subs.bng1.wh-man.zen.net.uk
The other gateway doesn't have the packet loss but latency is double what it should be ,(due to overloading )? anyone else on Zen seeing similar ?

Not just Zen. Greather Manchester based on an IDNet BTw connection and had mega packet loss from 7:30 to 8:30 this evening. Rang them up at 8:30 and the problem magically disappeared!

I’ve been seeing the same for a couple of days now. No issue with sync but throughput keeps falling off a cliff and dropping from 60Mbps to 5Mbps on the down leg only. My upload speed seems unaffected at 20Mbps. Packet losses every evening this week and at odd times during the day.

Is football being streamed all over the place? With highlights and catchup at various times as well.
My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk. Domains, sites and mail hosting - Tsohost & Ionos.
Connection - Three B311 4G, tbb tests normally 35-45Mpbs down, 65Mbps off-peak, 9-24 up. 1+ 8 Pro max 80Mbps down, 24Mbps up.

First time it was noticed was Tuesday around 12/1PM so live football seems unlikely,

I don't know how everyone else is doing tonight, but it's another bad evening for me. Can't even watch a stream reliably at 480p.
Lots of packet loss again (see my live BQM up thread). Actually it's been getting worse every evening since Saturday, looking at previous days' BQMs.
I notice there's an emergency maintenance service alert for xDSL load balancing scheduled for 1am tonight. I wonder if it's related to this.
(SNRM has been a solid 3db for the past 24 hours and all recent connection drops have been PPP rather than sync related.)

You will see elsewhere here I have had a short spell of the same here in Suffolk with terrible BQM images posted here and no reply from Zen here. It seems back to the usual perfect service. Zen have sent me their line monitoring images that are perfect and no lost packets, so from their point of view there is/was nothing wrong, which I suppose is Zen saying the BQM is at fault.
EDIT:- Possibliy I spoke too soon ... RUBBISH this morning, though https://packetlosstest.com/ shows no packet loss, so possibly BQM down the pan!

Hi all,
I've been experiencing 30% PL and download speeds of 5-10 Mbps at peak times (5pm-11pm) for the past 5 nights, like many others in here. I'm in the Manchester area (01617) and connected to the lo1.subs.bng1.wh-man.zen.net.uk [62.3.89.162] gateway.
It's absolutely perfect right now, but I can guarantee it will all go to sh!t later this afternoon and this evening. Looks to me like it's overloaded, my sync speed is perfect (72/18) and upload speed is never affected.
I spoke to Zen this morning and they will only raise a ticket if enough people complain about it....... shocking really, as clearly everyone who's on that gateway will be affected at peak times. Most consumers either won't notice or care unless their connection cuts off.
So it's really important you all ring them. I wasn't waiting on the phone at all.
Posting on their twitter @zeninternet really helps too as not everyone can be bothered to register and post on a forum.

That's shocking indeed for best isp are Zen Internet. That's poor indeed. Compare this with my Plusnet as no problem at all with PN gateway. Hope Zen wil sort this out for all zen customers.

You guys think your latency is bad, cop an eye full of the above.
I've been experiencing this since since my sync rate dropped through the floor a couple of weeks ago. Phone calls to Zen have got me nowhere at all..............................clearly something major has gone wrong at Zen and they won't admit it.

The attitude of Zen over this is disgusting!
|
|

The tracert doesn't reveal that much other than slight increase in overall latency. Throughput and PL tests are needed (see Testmy.net and speedtest.net).
I've had pingplotter running tracerts to bbc.co.uk every 60s for the last 4 hours, just look at the PL and variance in latency ....

I expect it to get significantly worse by 8pm.

It’s massively worse. My throughput is down to below ADSL performance again. Was up at 60Mbps earlier.
Emergency capacity issue maintenance in London tonight (28th) from 23:00 until 01:00 29th. Hopefully that might help.

Nothing above is considered inherently "bad". An increase in latency is normal if you changed backhual to Zen or had interleaving applied due to line issues. Heck, even just reconnecting the PPP session I sometimes see a first hop difference between 6ms or 16ms.
I currently have 6.5ms first hop and 20% packet loss, now THAT is a problem, whereas 16ms first hop is nothing to bat an eyelid at so long as the connection is stable.

I've had an issue for the past week and I did a trace last night to the BBC website showed issues at a couple of Manchester hubs. Packets dropped all over the shop.
|
|
|
Zen changed the IP address in Manchester that I connect via on Tuesday and reverted it back again early this morning. Testing yesterday showed all was well again on the alternative IP and I’m repeating the process (yesterday’s tests having now been invalidated by the IP address change) now to see if the original problem has been sorted.
