Fritzbox 7530 Deregistering devices

[link to this post]

Moved from Sky Broadband to Zen Fibre 300 recently. I started to have connection issues with both Sky boxes primarily, and checked the logs of the Fritzbox and noticed dozens of device 'deregistration' entries.

An explanation of this from the Routers help page:

Wireless device deregistered (Wi-Fi network), [device ID], IP [IP address], MAC [MAC address].
This is an event message from the "Wi-Fi" area.

The status message notifies you that the specified wireless device is no longer registered with the given Wi-Fi network of the FRITZ!Box.

The cause for the wireless device no longer being registered could be:

The computer or the network device with the wireless adapter has been turned off.
The Wi-Fi function of the computer or mobile device was switched off.
The wireless device is located outside the Wi-Fi range of the FRITZ!Box.

None of the devices fit the criteria above, Blink Camera, SkyQ, mobiles etc, so I do not think any of these devices should be 'deregistering' devices at all? This doesn't seem to be operating correctly to me, does anyone have any experience with these Fritz boxes doing something similar? I can confirm that during one deregistration event, the SkyQ box dropped connection, so this appears to be a potential cause for the constant wifi drops on sky, but do not know if this is correct, and how to rectify the problem....

Was fine on Sky Broadband.........

Have you tried ticking the "Always assign this network device the same IPv4 address" option?

Originally when I setup the box I had both devices on an assigned IP, same for my HTPC box, but took the auto-assign off a few days ago. The issue has existed in both scenarios.

This log sounds more like an outcome than a cause, and may simply be confirmation each time a client device decides to leave an AP (as in a disassociation event).

On a Fritzbox, you are seeing this because you have this setting ticked:
"Log registrations and deregistrations and expanded Wi-Fi information"
which for me is not on by default.

Do you have anything else acting as a Wi-Fi access point (which can include another router, repeater, range extender) ?

Yeah I have "Log registrations and deregistrations and expanded Wi-Fi information" ticked, as part of troubleshooting the continual wifi drops of both Sky boxes, which is not (signal\strength related). I'm in the same room on a laptop with no issues. I was just concerned so many devices, and specifically the Sky devices were dropping the network, which coincided with the de-register logs.

No nothing in the house would be seen as an AP, the only router is the Fritzbox.

Are you by any chance running WPA2+WPA3 in your Fritzbox Wi-Fi settings?

Hey,

No, currently set to WPA2 (CCMP).

I'm out of suggestions then

(WPA3 requires PMFs such that some clients that don't yet understand it may struggle, and I'd expect your setting to be more compatible in the here and now compared with the mixed mode setting).

I've stuck with WPA2 (CCMP) too unless/until I have 100% WPA3 capable devices.

Yes it's an odd one. I've got a ticket logged with AVM directly (Fritzbox), whether they assist is another matter.

Thanks for the ideas and help.

I had a similar issue on one of the older firmware versions, can't remember exactly which one (maybe 7.20 but not 100% sure), it resolved itself after another firmware update.

It may be worth doing a firmware update on the Fritzbox and see if that makes a difference.

The latest firmware is 7.27, go to system, update and press the Find New FritzOS button if you're on an older version.
