Zen Default Gateway?

[link to this post]

Does anyone know what Zen's Default Gateway is? Trying to setup my Asus router and they are not able to provide me with the information.

Never heard of anyone having to populate it themselves, if you setup your router correctly it will be automatically populated.

Yes you are right it is automatically populated, however I have been struggling to get my Asus router to use custom DNS servers, each time it connects to the line it just force uses Zen DNS again. I thought by using manual IP, Subnet, Default Gateway etc then it might work but It seems from other discussions I have had this wont help at all.

Just push out the custom DNS servers on your LAN side rather than your router IP

Vodafone Fibre (Superfast2 - 80/20), Draytek 130, DrayTek 2925, DrayTek AP-910c x 2
(Gone but not forgotten: AP-700, 2820n x 2, 2800vg, 2800, HG612)

Speedtests:
ThinkBB - Mini | ThinkBB - Full | Speedtest.net

Yeah but then I can't use DNS Rebind protection, DNSSEC or DNS Over TLS

I don't think you can specify a default gateway with Zen. You get dynamically allocated to a gateway when the PPPoE session gets created; there are at least 5 different gateways I'm aware of (3 London, 2 in Manchester).

ISPs of any size will take more than one feed from their chosen ADSL/FTTC/FTTP suppliers for resiliency and load balancing (small operations may be resellers of a larger operation's service but Zen also has resellers and also wholesales it's backhaul but we digress)

This means that the gateway address changes each time the router makes a PPP connection attempt so that's why they cannot provide the information.

Can't speak specifically for Asus routers but had an occasion a few weeks back to switch my DNS servers from Zen (am using one of their fritzboxes) to Google as they had a DNS resolver issue but I had to be able to get online to work.

Although the router initially tied theirs it did switch to Google (I believe this is forced to facilitate their auto configuration of their Fritzbox suppled routers) but I did find it did take on board my change.

Virgin (ADSL) => Namesco => Newnet => O2 => Plusnet => Zen => Newnet => Zen => Freeola => Vivaciti (using O2 Wholesale DSL) => Xilo (C&W Wholesale) => Xilo (O2 Wholesale) => Xilo (TT Wholesale due to O2 Wholesale closure) => Zen LLU =>> ZeN FTTP (Openreach 300 Mbps down, 47 Mbps up)
Router: Fritzbox 7530
