FTTP is rolling out rapidly here. Some questions.

BT busy spreading out the fibre in the town for FTTP. I suspect spring or summer to go live. Maybe earlier. I live in an old stone cottage built in the 1750s. There is a newer (victorian) brick kitchen extension to the rear.

The front part of the building could stop a tank. 1.2 metre thick stone walls. There is a BT duct just outside my window. (Picture of my house and the duct: House side) My copper line comes from the rear of the house from a pole. Comes in through a hole just under the eves where the house is victorian brick. Runs across the loft, back of house to front. Then it comes through a hole next to the loft hatch, then into the living room through a hole in the inner wall which is thin, then to the NTE5. I think they will have to do it that way from a pole unless they are digging the pavement. at the front. My floors are stone. Think ye that this is the most likely path they will take for the fibre?

Also. What happens with my FTTC copper contract ?. I'm with Zen and at the moment I'm out of long contract and on a 30 day rolling contract. I have been for a few years now. Will there be an significant internet outage, or do they switch off the copper the same day as the fibre goes live. Or do they overlap for a time ? I'm clueless about that part of the setup.

In addition, when you use an external source for internet access on the Fritzbox 7530 that I have, is the authentication through the router using my Zen username / password as is now or does the network use a different method. ?

If you order an upgrade from Zen or migrate to FTTP with another provider then the FTTC goes off the same day the FTTP goes live.
Doing it this way leaves a risk that if there are problems with the FTTP install you can be left with no broadband at all.
It doesn't give enough time to cancel the FTTC switch off.

You can choose to order FTTP separately, leaving the FTTC running.
You could then manually cancel the FTTC when you are satisfied the FTTP is up and running.
It's a minimum 30 days for cancelling FTTC without it involving an upgrade or a migration so that leaves you paying for both for 30 days.

Your fibre will almost certainly follow the existing copper and use the poles that are already in place.
How and where they get through the walls will be down to you and the installer on the day.

Authentication is usually the same. You would have an extra device in addition to your Fritzbox.
FTTP requires an ONT (an optical/fibre modem). It's just a small white powered box around the size of a master socket.
