Own router with Zen FTTPH

[link to this post]

Hi all

Jsut had zen fttp installed.

Don’t want to use the Fritzl box, want to use my own Asus RT-AC86U.

Plugging the Ethernet from fibre box to router gives no internet. I’ve gone intl WAN settings and entered the username and password zen provide into the PPPoE credentials field, still no internet.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Probably missing something simple.

Have you tried the fritz box? Zen have often claimed to have enabled services and they're not working, either owing to OR/BTW issues or Zen issues. First step is to check with their router, which should be correctly configured

There is no magic PPPoE required if you are on Openreach / BTW, username / password has been all I've needed on a few routers. I think if it is Zen via Cityfibre there might be more to it.

Hi

Yup the Fritzl appears to be all operational.

I believe this is a CityFibre connection. The guys had cityfibre hi vis on anyway!

I think for City Fibre there is an extra setting,

You need to set the wan VLAN ID to 911

https://www.zen.co.uk/help-support/cityfibresettings

Various (Dile up) -> clara.net (Dile up) -> TELE2 (Microwave) -> ZeN (ADSL) -> ZeN (vDSL)

Thanks, I didn’t spot the city fibre version of the page. I was about to go down the vlan route.. I think Asus make you jump through some hoops to achieve it.

No hoops. I've been using an RT-AX86U for a City Fibre/Zen connection for nearly a year.
On the router go to LAN/IPTV/LAN Port and set Select ISP profile to manual and Internet VID to 911

Head to https://portal.zen.co.uk/ and sign in

Click My Services > Broadband and SDSL

Click View Technical Details

NOTE: I've had an active FTTP connection over Openreach Fibre since 2018 so it might be that they don't offer the same level of technical detail (OR doesn't need a VLAN ID configured for example) but I'd check there that you've got the userID and password correct and it should hopefully also give you any other details you need.

Good luck.

Virgin (ADSL) => Namesco => Newnet => O2 => Plusnet => Zen => Newnet => Zen => Freeola => Vivaciti (using O2 Wholesale DSL) => Xilo (C&W Wholesale) => Xilo (O2 Wholesale) => Xilo (TT Wholesale due to O2 Wholesale closure) => Zen LLU =>> ZeN FTTP (Openreach 300 Mbps down, 47 Mbps up)
Router: Fritzbox 7530
