FTTP / "cluster" of analogue phones

[link to this post]

Have just watched ZEN video of how to use analogue phone with Fritz router (after I'm on FTTP).
I have a "cluster" of analogue handsets - If I connect the master handset to Fritz as shown in the video (instead of the BT analogue socket) will the other handsets still "see" the master as at present ?

It's only rock 'n' roll...

I understand that one of my friends (Zen &FTTP) has successfully plugged his existing telephone wiring into the appropriate socket on the reverse of the Zen supplied Fritzbox. Essentially he has replaced his master socket with the router.

If I have an opportunity when I am around there on Friday, I’ll have a closer look as to how and report back.

The only other thing that occurs is how many analogue phones you have connected on the circuit - I think REN may still be relevant. From memory I think there are 3 on my friends.

Yes it will work, just take the cable out of the master socket and plug it into the router.

Thanks
Dan.

I just plug the master phone into the Fritzbox 7530 FON port and that is it. I use the master phone and four satellite phones and all work fine.

Extension phones are all connected in parallel, irrespective of the route taken by the wiring through the house. If you look inside an extension wall socket you should find that pins 2 and 5 are connected (often with a blue & white wire and a white & blue wire respectively). All the pins 2 in all the sockets are joined together, and all the pins 5 are joined together. Without a phone being plugged in there is no circuit.

Basic fault testing is easy if one phone works in one socket to ring and make calls - you can try it in the other sockets to prove their wiring good, and then add other phones to prove them.

If you're considering getting a set of cordless DECT phones, then get one with a separate base unit, as some have the base combined with one of the phone charging cradles. Then you don't have to keep one phone near the router; only the base unit has to be plugged in.
