help with zen's digital voice service

[link to this post]

Hi,

I hope someone can offer some help. A relative recenlty told me they are switching from their current vdsl service to zen as a new customer and was asking me questions about digital voice which I said I would need to look into.

They have opted to port their number over as they wish to continue with a phone service. The will be using the supplied fritz 7530. Their phone system is a panasonic KX-TGC264E system with a number of handsets. Do they literally connect the base station to the "fon" port on the router on switch over day or is it not as stragiht forward.

Many thanks

Yes, that is what you have to do. I'm in the process of switching from Virgin to Zen FTTP and I'm pretty sure that plugging my DECT base into the FON port is all I need to do. Zen have some helpful videos on their site which walk you through the process.

Thanks. Asking them to look in the box as I'm not there it appears there is a black phone adapter which goes into fon port of the router so hopefully it will all work on the day. I am going to help them next weekend as changeover is on the Monday...

Yes its the most straightforward option if they have the physical adapter for the FON port, and they want to keep using the features of the Panasonic base station.

However the Fritz!box is also a built-in DECT base station with an answerphone feature so in future the handsets can be re-registered to the router if one less box becomes a desirable consideration.
