Can I transfer my Zen digital voice phone number?

[link to this post]

I'm thinking of leaving Zen for a better deal.
What I'm worried about is I had my BT land line number ported to Zen for their digital voice.
Would Zen allow me to take my DV number to the new provider?

Yes, in principle. I say that as I have just done what you want, from Zen to AAISP and it's all working fine. The only problem is that the transfer hasn't properly registered within Zen and they think that they should continue billing me for £6/month. Probably get sorted eventually but it really p#sses me off after 7 years' faultless service from Zen.
Not quite the same, as I'm only moving the phone, not the fibre BB.

All now sorted, without fuss, so back to our normal programme.

If leaving Zen for another fibre only supplier, would/could the transfer of phone number to AAISP happen simultaneously and without much down time?

Or would it be better to port the phone to AAISP in advance of migrating the broadband internet?

I'm currently paying £35/month for the 80/20 FTTC (which may now be SOGEA since converting to Zen's digital voice) but the phone line is included in the broadband cost, not billed seperately. Therefore I'm not sure I would get a reduction in my current bill if I moved the phone part away?

I think the sane thing to do is to separate the phone from the ISP permanently. Too many processes involved in moving them together. So if you want to move to AAISP as ISP don't move the phone there, but move it elsewhere before you leave Zen.

And if I wanted to move the phone number to AAISP and the broadband to a different ISP, should I move the number first and then when transferred switch the broadband to the new ISP?

Or is it safe to do both at the same time?

If and when I leave Zen, I want a VOIP service that is line only and PAYG calls.

So far all FTTP/ FTTH ISP's that also offer a digital voice line charge for inclusive calls package as well, so having the phone line with AAISP seems to make sense. Then I can move ISP as and when I want without affecting the VOIP line.
