Zen FTTP + digital voice + own router

[link to this post]

Hi -

I will be switching over from BT FTTP to Zen FTTP (openreach) with digital voice (£6 p/m) in a week or two.

I have been reading conflicting information online which has made me somewhat dizzy, so I'd like some clarity if possible.

I would like to use my own router and DV with the BT-supplied DV phone. Is this possible?

Is it a case of plugging the new router into the ONT and entering my zen credentials? What do I need to do to get DV working?

Cheers
BEP

Hey! Having the same questions. Would love to be able to use my own router including for DV. Have you managed to figure this out? Thx

It unfortunate if Zen call their IP phone service the same as BT call theirs, Digital Voice , but the £6 you will be paying is nothing to do with BTDV , presumably Zen will provide you with a router with a phone port or an ATA set up for your IP telephony, if you have a BT DV phone it may work to an extent but not as integrated as it would be with BT DV, or it may be useless on Zen, if it doesn’t work then that’s unfortunate but it was designed to work on BT DV .

Here's what I posted 2 years ago; how to use a VoIP phone or DECT base with Ethernet connection, ignoring the FON port on a Fritz! box. However, I have no idea about using BT's DV phone.

To set up Zen DV as just another SIP provider you can set the server address(es) to voip2.zen.co.uk, set your DV phone number as the user ID, and get the voip password here:
Zen customer portal / My Services / General / select Digital Voice / show VoIP password
This works for me on my Gigaset N300A DECT base, connected to the internet, although I usually use the normal Zen procedure, connecting to the Fritz box FON port with the fixed line connection from the N300A.

Zen currently supply the Fritz!Box 7530AX router, which as you say, has a built in phone port, (RJ11 with BT socket adapter supplied). It is also a DECT base station.

I am with Zen Internet via CityFibre, but have my telephony with Andrews & Arnold. I utilise both the hard wired and cordless facilities.
