Migrating Broadband From BT to Zen While Dropping Voice Line

[link to this post]

Currently I’m out of contract with BT, who supply my broadband (FTTP) and [Digital Voice] phone line, and want to move my broadband to Zen, and cancel the phone line. I can, of course, cancel the phone line via BT but there are many reports saying that doing this puts you back into contract (thereby resulting in possible charges when moving to Zen).

So, can Zen cancel my phone line whilst migrating my broadband from BT or can they only ‘leave it behind’? If the latter, presumably, I’m still paying the BT phone line charge and then I have to cancel it separately with BT?

Nothing is ever straight forward with BT!

You have bundled voice+broadband from BT. You can't migrate 1 and leave the other.
Migrating the landline number only would cease the broadband.
Migrating broadband only will end all services with BT with the number being retrievable for 30 days.

They can't leave you with 1 or the other as it's a single contract for both.

So in your situation I recommend migrating the broadband only. Enter the current phone number if requested by the Zen form. Just make sure you're ordering a data only package (no voice).
Don't contact BT. They will write confirming you are leaving.

The BT digital voice will automatically cease when you migrate to Zen, it's part of the BT bundle you're cancelling.

This is because you're on FTTP and have a VOIP service with BT.

Hi Guys, many thanks for the clarification. It makes total sense when you think about it. Guess I was still confused from when the bills used to separate broadband and voice charges rather than just bundling them together as they do now.
