A small speedup

[link to this post]

I am connected to Zen's Fibre 900/900 service, and everything on my LAN runs at 1Gb. Recently I noticed that my upload speed has been dropping off, while download is pretty steady. In anticipation of a broadband upgrade to 2.5Gb I changed my LAN connection from the Realtek 8111H on the MSI motherboard to a Realtek 8125B on a PCIe card. I simply disabled the former and found that the new card picked up its driver automatically. I measured the down/up speed, with an average of three websites immediately before and after the change, and found that it went from 903/825 to 911/928. Obviously the future 2.5Gb performance will be the real test.

Also on 900/900 and looking forward to 2.5, your message prompted me to run an Ookla speedtest,on the desktop, which revealed that my pint has reduced to 7 from 11, connecting via Manchester..

I find that the speedtest servers based in Manchester are hit-and-miss whether they will give you a lower ping when routing through Manchester.

Exascale is generally good and I get between 7 and 9. IDS I get 20 (which makes me think the route is me in the south to Manchester, back to London and then back to Manchester again).

Zen in London I get 13ms usually and very often a much lower speed than I'd expect when terminating at a Zen run server.
