FritzBox 7530 Firmware Upgrade

[link to this post]

Sorry for the cross-post, but since it involves (ex) Zen kit, it might find a better home here smile

Following on a disastrous firmware update with my Draytek 7560, I'm currently using an ex-Zen Fritzbox 7530 (not AX) router with my iDNet connection. I did a reset and updated all the information, but set firmware updates to manual. It's currently using firmware 7.57 which the UI tells me is up to date. Despite this, a search of the AVM site shows the current version is 8.02.

Given the grief some users experienced with FritzBox firmware updates, does anyone know if it's now safe to upgrade to the current version 8.02 issued last January?

Re Draytek, just seen this - DrayTek routers worldwide go into reboot loops over weekend

Mine has been OK on 8.02, but it isn't directly connected to wan

Thank you for the link to the ongoing attacks on Draytek routers. I suspect the 2760 is eol since there haven't been any firmware updates for a while. The backup Fritz seems to be working OK though

The ex-Zen Fritz 7530 is on a FTTC line - I'm assuming you're using yours in Bridge mode. Might be as well for me to check with AVM. From word on the Forums, their tech support seems to be pretty helpful.

I have same on FTTP and never had any problems. As far as I could see from the very long thread the problems were mainly people who were on fttc and using the modem.I’m now on 8.02.

On the Internet connection page you may need to open change connection settings and change vlanid depending on the carrier. Im Fibre Heros and need 911 despite what IDnet website says.

I am using a 7530 - not AX - on an AAISP FTTC line, and it is running the AVM 8.02. No problems since updating Jan 13th.

I took a punt on upgrading to 8.02 and so far it seems to have gone OK.

One thing I have noticed is that the connection speed is slowly going down. OK some of this is probably due to the DLM being triggered by the multiple disconnects by the Draytek, but it does look as though the Fritz connects at a lower speed. The best I had on this line was a Broadcom based Zyxel which played nice with the Broadcom in the cabinet.

Thanks to all for the help. The Fritz does seem to be a niche product in the UK. At least it never really caught on over here.

It's actually in Router mode but linked to a LAN port on another router, it is just handling VOIP and the car charger wifi connection (it didn't seem to like my main router's wi-fi).
