Open reach to city fibre

[link to this post]

Hi all,
Just had a note from city fibre saying it’s now available on my street. To my surprise Zen were listed as a provider and I can get the 2.3/2.3 product.
I’m currently out of contract so 2 questions please
Can Zen migrate me to city fibre
Or
Should I look at some of the other providers listed ?

I have raised a ticket with Zen but no response so far.

If you are with Zen and they are listed by CF there's no reason why you can't be migrated. Don't know why you think that you couldn't be.

Zen can certainly offer a cityfibre contract if its available at your property but it will be a new install with a new ont.

You can definitely move from openreach to cityfibre. I moved from openreach FTTC to cityfibre with no real problems.

Zen should be able to move you, though we've seen others with issues trying to get to 2.3/2.3 due to process gaps at Zen.

Personally I'd be looking at the Sky 2.5/2,5 product. When I looked it showed the 5Gig on one the front page, but you could then pick 2.5Gig once through the availability check.

Sky is IPoE (IP over Ethernet) so no PPP overhead and these days you don't need any authentication settings if using your own router as the network does the clever bit. At the higher speeds PPP is a major overhead for both the ISP and your CPE.

But with Sky you don't get a static IP address, so it depends on what's important to you.

Zen's BRASes will be able to handle 2.5Gbps PPPoE without breaking a sweat (it's what BRASes are designed for), so it's just a question of how good your own router is.

Late to this but yes, I had a Zen OR FTTP, CityFibre appeared and Zen swopped me over. I kept the same IP address and saved cash.
