Request to remove personal data

[link to this post]

I receved an unexpected email from Zen's complaints team today with the following text:

Thank you for contacting us to request that we remove your personal data from our systems. The timeframe for processing these types of requests is one calendar month from receipt, as outlined in the ICO guidelines below:

https://ico.org.uk/for-organisations/guide-to-data-p...

The link above also includes an explanation of the circumstances that a request for erasure applies to. I would therefore like to advise that for VAT purposes we have a legal obligation to retain the following account data for 7 years following cancellation, after which time it will be removed:

• Name of individual or trading name
• Billing address
• Landline number linked to the account (if relevant)
• Type of service (the actual domain name, telephone number of the service, Broadband circuit reference or OGEA number)
• Duration of the service

We will let you know when we have removed your personal data from our systems.

It's not a complaint I have raised (as far as I can remember!). I assume I can ignore it, and there's no reason to be concerned as to what prompted this email?

I have had dozens, may be hundreds, of scam emails purporting to be from various service desks to an email address for one of the organisations I am involved in.
If you have or have had an account with Zen then contact them by a known safe method; don't use links in the email; if not, ignore it.
