Which "exchanges" offer 1.6Gbps FTTP?

[link to this post]

Hi

Can anyone explain the rationale around availability of the Zen 1.6Gbps? We've just been enabled for FTTP, and on Zen I am offered the 900 package (maximum).

But....Vodafone and EE both offer 1.6Gbps for my address. And I'm confused why?

Thanks

Jim

It could be due to a few reasons, but the most likely is that Zen doesn’t have equipment in your local exchange, or they don’t have a cable link to the specific OLT your home is served from. I understand Zen has kit in roughly 700 of the ~1,000 Openreach handover exchanges, and they reach the rest of the UK via BT Wholesale. Since BT Wholesale doesn’t offer speeds above 1Gbps, if Zen is serving your area through Wholesale, they wouldn’t be able to offer 1.6Gbps.

Ah, makes sense Thank you.

1Gbps will beat my current ADSL 11Mb.....
