I have had internet access since circa 1998 and have been with ZEN since 2008.
Through an accident of history (remember I started in the days of dial-up) I have 2 telephone lines at my property :
Line 1 is copper, services my landline, and is billed by BT.
Line 2 is FTTC, services my router (Unlimited Fibre 1), and is billed by ZEN.
I have just successfully reconfigured my setup so that :
Line 1 is redundant
My landline number has ported to ZEN and is in use via Digital Voice
The (unused) landline number that was serviced by Line 2 is redundant
Therefore, no more billing from BT
Line 2 has been SOGEA'd, internet access is now Unlimited Fibre 2
All this happened pretty seamlessly, on the planned date.
So - a thank you to ZEN (and BT ?) for a successful change.
My new setup has removed redundancy, future-proofed my landline number, and saves me money on an on-going basis (BT charges were very high).
An observation :
There exists a large number of "ZEN how to" videos on YouTube. These are fairly useful , but could do with a few tweaks / enhancements.
From reading some of the user comments on the videos, I observe that there seems to be some confusion around the terms "analogue / digital / DECT / Fibre (full or part)".
In my case, for example, my home phone setup consists of a Panasonic base station and 4 handsets. The Panasonic literature / manual describes this as a "Digital Cordless Answering System" but the base station is actually an analogue connection to the outside world.
Confused ? You will be !!
