Fritz!7530 OS 8.02 to 8.21 surprise upgrade

[link to this post]

I noticed that my Fritz 7530 wasn't talking to the internet yesterday afternoon.

Resolution required a reboot (power off / on) during which OS upgraded from 8.02 to 8.21.

Doesn't seem to have done any damage, though I did spot an extra "re-connect" which happened at 02:00 this morning.

The wonders of technology !

Noticed another "re-connect" at 01:30 this morning.

Is this going to be a daily occurrence ?

Fritz!OS has a daily 'drop and reconnect DSL' function, it's a thing in Germany - "Zwangstrennung". Possibly something has changed in the new version which has enabled (or reenabled if it was previously manually disabled) this.

Thanks for that, a couple of questions :
1) Why would I want to drop DSL on a daily basis ?
2) How do I disable this (can't find anything in the Fritz interface) ?

1) It may reflect an idiosyncrasy of the German DSL system.

2) There us a way, I did it myself when I was with Zen. I can't remember how it was done. Zen should be able to tell you if no one else responds.

I think the setting you are looking for might be under:

Internet... Account Information... Internet Connection Tab

Scroll down and there is a link to Change Connection Settings

That offers "Maintain Permanently" or "Clear Idle Connection"

Select "Maintain Permanently" and clear the check box next to "Delay Disconnection by provider to period between T1 / T2"

Works for me on PlusNet FTTP

Cheers,

Rebooting a router can resolve issues caused by the caching or IP address clashes.
Rebooting regularly can prevent such issues. On the other hand if devices like printers aren't given reserved addresses rebooting can cause connection issues and, unless you have a static IP Address, may cause problems if you need to access your network remotely.
Some sources recommend rebooting once a month or if problems occur.

With apologies to all :

On checking more closely it appears that :

DSL is ok, connected for 2days and 7 hours i.e. since I rebooted Fritz

Internet connection getting reset on a daily basis (seems to correspond to ZEN sending settings to Fritz) - how do I stop this ?
