eero router

[link to this post]

I've just moved house, and despite the website claiming using their house move retaining your existing configuration and taking your existing router with you Zen sent me a new Eero router (though DPD were useless when it came to delivering it).
I have no idea why Zen are now preferring the Eero over the old Fritz boxes. I know some people had issues with the Fritz routers, but at least you don't have to use a stupid app to configure it.

After half an hour of trying to configure the Eero to my requirements I reverted back to my old Fritz router - gives the same speed test results, but allows me to configure my network how I want it( and via a webpage rather than requiring network connectivity to use a stupid app , has 3 usable LAN ports rather than just 1 and also supports VOIP and DECT phones (I could manage without the VOIP as i only ever get spam calls on my old landline number these days).

When I upgraded to Zen's Full Fibre Max 2300 Mbps service, they sent me the cheaper eero router. This has only one 2.5G port, used to connect to the ONT, meaning that I couldn't connect PCs at the available line speed. The damn thing is still in its unopened box, and I certainly wasn't going to spend £10/month on the "better" eero which is still crippled and has to be opened to Amazon. My Archer BE550 has 5x 2.5G ports and works perfectly at 2200/2300.

I think they prefer them for their higher speed offerings.

Amazon probably offers them a big discount, aiming to make it up through data slurping. Fritz routers are getting expensive, especially at the top end. Even with bulk-purchase discounts, I doubt they can come close to matching what Amazon offers.
