testing, testing ...

Having recently defended bt, I'm now hoist by a recent change.

www.speedtester.bt.com has had a facelift. It now reports that if your speed is from 600kb upwards, well that's 'fine'.

Hmmm ...

As I can't run it from LLU, what does it actually say in full?

I have also noticed that now the bt speed test states that a minimum speed of 600kbs is acceptable for my connection. I am very suspicious of the rationale behind this change. Surely it is not designed to prevent those unhappy with the service from complaining?

It isn't designed to stop people complaining.

It is designed to allow the response to be "Tough!".

Roberto, in answer to your query, results this a.m. from the bt speedtester relating to my bt option 3 are as follows:

D/L achieved - 2266Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150Kbps ?
Your DSL connection rate: 2976Kbps downstream, 448Kbps upstream
IP profile for your line is : 2500Kbps

If I click on the info box at ?, I receive the deathless message:

Notes
If your download speed lies in this range then your connection seems to be working fine.

It's this last statement I find bizarre.

Thanks smile.

Yep, it is bizarre.

I opened a this thread in General Chatter linking back to yours, as I think a lot of non-BT Broadband people will be interested. May be worth a look if you haven't seen it already.
