Mouse Recommendation

[link to this post]

I'm looking for recommendations for a new mouse. I currently have a Logitech MX1000 Wireless Laser mouse which I love however it keeps loosing connection to the receiver. I've raised a support request with Logitech but it appears that it is on it's way out and nothing can be done.

So after 4 years of the MX1000 I'm looking for a new mouse. Any recommendations?

Regards,

Stuart

Before you jump at a new mouse, is your receiver in the back/front of the PC, or on your desk?

I had no end of jumpy cursor with my Logitech mouse, and the simple solution was buy a 2M USB extension cable. Now the receiver sits about two feet from the mouse (with no desk between the mouse and the receiver). Never had a problem since.

I've got something like this, but an older version.

Hi Camie,

The receiver sits on my desk about 3ft away from my mouse, where it has done for the last 4 years. It's only the last 2 - 3 weeks it has started playing up. I've done various diagnostics with Logitech (including testing with / without the software and in another PC). Logitech's response is that the unit is now "defect"

Logitech's latest response:
As I understand the cursor for you MX1000 has stopped responding to any mouse movements. It seems like the mouse loses connection to the Receiver. Unfortunately if you test it on another PC and it has the same symptoms then it a very clear sign that the product is defect.

PS. I'm very happy with my keyboard (MS Natural) and am only looking to replace the mouse.

Regards,

Stuart

Well personally I would go for a similar mouse if happy with Logitech (four years seems a little quick to replace one though). My current kb & mouse is 5+ years old.

If I had to change right now, I would be looking for a mouse with a recharge cradle. My one has a recharge cable, which is slightly annoying if it wants juice when I'm busy. A cradle would recharge every day/night.

Trust me I wouldn't be looking if it wasn't for the fact that the mouse can't be used for more than a couple of minutes before it loses connection to the receiver.

Sometime you can re-establish connection by pressing the reset button on the mouse, other times (and sometimes even this doesn't work) you have to press the reset buttons on both the receiver and the mouse.

Stuart

That sounds exactly like my old wireless mouse problems.

I wonder if it might be the receiver. No chance you can test it either out elsewhere to make sure?

Could even be interference from something else. Cordless phone, wireless router - anything like that near the receiver?

In my experience all rf wireless mice are like that. They only work well at a distance with full batteries or at one foot from the receiver, anything else and they become extremely annoying.

I haven't added anything or changed anything for several months. The only thing that is near (about 6 - 8ft from the receiver) that *may* cause interference is a Cisco 877 Wireless router which has been there for about 18 months.

If it has rechargeable batteries in it they are possibly at the end of their life & not holding charge. Have you tried changing them?
