As I mentioned earlier, you need to factory reset the Vigor 120 which will put it in bridge mode by default. You do NOT need to manually change any settings unless your ISP uses non standard PPPoA settings. I vaguely remember O2 users had to change something on the Vigor 120 but for the other ISPs the default settings worked fine. BtW which ISP are you with?
If still no luck then connect a PC to the Vigor using an ethernet cable and try setting up a PPPoE internet connection on your PC. If you are able to get online via your pc then there's nothing wrong with the Vigor, the issue is with your Asus router. I would check the settings on the Asus, primarily making sure 'connection type' is PPPoE. As a last resort I would factory reset the Asus and start from scratch.

Also is it best to connect vigor to LAN to PC first make all the necessary configurations.
What configurations? The Vigor 120 is just a dumb modem and is designed to work out of the box...

I wouldn't say that, but certainly straight out of the box that is in effect how it is configured - and in the OP's scenario should be left as such.
All connection settings should be on the ASUS. With, something that hasn't been mentioned, the Vigor connecting into the ASUS blue WAN port.

Good point, if the OP has connected to any other port on the Asus then its not surprising he/she isn't able to get a connection.

Ok - so I've factory rest the vigor and not touched the settings.
I've then connected the Vigor to Asus via WAN port and set to PPPoE and entered ISP details (I'm with SKY). It seems to have connected to WAN so seems to be working! But no internet light on the Vigor!?
Also just a quick question now that the Asus and Vigor are connected via WAN - how do i access the Vigor I entered 192.168.2.1 but won't connect...
Side note no ADSL was being picked up in the Vigor when using SKY splitter/ADSL box to connect broadband and phone-line.

Sky can be an odd one, in the past I've found you have to clone the WAN MAC address of the Sky hub to the device that is doing the authentication
The final bit about no ADSL being picked up is confusing, if you mean the Vigor was not seeing any ADSL when the Sky hub was on the line then very normal, only one modem will work. If you mean the small microfilter worked for the Sky hub and not the Vigor that would be very odd, and suggests maybe something wrong with the vigor itself.

When you say "No internet light on the Vigor", are you getting internet on the ASUS, so able to use it? Or are you saying there is still a problem?

The 'internet ' led on the vigor will strangely not light up when successfully connected. I used to think it was a bug on the modem but apparently this is normal behaviour when connected via PPPoE. See here , under troubleshooting :

Only way to get line stats on the vigor is to disconnect cable from Asus wan port and plugging it into a PC and going to 192.168.2.1. Just a minor inconvenience on what is an excellent adsl2+ modem

The 'internet ' led on the vigor will strangely not light up when successfully connected.
As I said earlier, Vigor has got some hidden fields in the settings where you can enter your ISP username and password directly into Vigor. It is then that Internet led will start blinking.
