jitter

[link to this post]

guys having joined cable in january I am seeing jitter on my latency, a problem I also had at my old address on cable although this time its less severe it is there. Whilst on adsl I see no jitter at all. So right now I am in 2 minds about cancelling my adsl since the jitter on my cable makes using ssh feel laggy. But the download speeds on the cable are usually far superior.

can people please if possible post results of pingtest.net and tracert to bbc.co.uk?

thanks

Ping statistics for 212.58.244.140:
Packets: Sent = 10, Received = 10, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 11ms, Maximum = 14ms, Average = 12ms

Probably more informative than a traceroute.

Maybe the queue of signups is more than the VM infrastructure can handle and it's bursting into slight overutilisation upstream? The first symptom of that is jitter.

thanks to all the responses.

VM are already scheduling upgrades for my area which is good news, due april this year, they said the demand after enabling the area has surprised them. Also since I moved to 20mbit yesterday the jitter dissapeared, is that maybe because 20mbit is on docsis3 (emulating docsis 1.1) and 10mbit is on the old docsis 1.1?
