I am comparatively new to PN and was optimistic about higher speeds
on ADSL max. The support staff were very helpful and everything
seems set up OK at both ends.
My Synch was Mb2.400 with downloads consistent at Mb1.850. I even thought
of trying another router when in a blinding flash of inspiration I disconnected
my Sky+ box from the phoneline.
Instant synch Mb8. I was overjoyed. Alas the downloads remain exactly the
same as before! Reading the small print I notice that PN qualify the "up to" bit
by saying that few people actually do get over 2.
I guess the 21st century is not yet here for our telephone infrastructure!

It could be that the line hasn't yet picked up the increase in sync rate (BT use a profile value that is always a little below the sync rate and can take a handful of days to update). You might be able to get plusnet to unstick the profile for you if you log a help call (or one of them will probably pick it up in here).

Hi there,
From a legal perspective, we have to qualify what "upto" actually means. Because exchange contention plays a very large part in the speeds that customers can receive, it is often outside of our control.
Having said that, if you could let me know a ticket number on your account, I'll be more than happy to look into this for you, to see if there's anything I can do to bump things along a bit.

Thanks for offers of help. I am fairly relaxed about my speed at the moment
as it is very consistent aroung the 1800kbs mark. I may pick this up again
after Xmas.
As a newcomer to PN the service so far (following zero migration
downtime) more than adequately meets expectation!

I'm both happy and feeling a liitle smug this morning. Ran a speed test
and got K5000 plus!
My former ISP wanted a further 12 month lock in at a higher price so PN
was the logical choice. I know these forums concentrate on criticism
but I have to say I'm impressed with both the service and support.
PS Maybe it's worth a FAQ or something to also suggest disconnecting
Sky box phone connections where synch speed is an issue.

Was your sky box actually plugged in via a filter?

Now you mention it I don't think it was plugged in via the filter.
They provide a dual socket which goes straight into the
wall plate.
If I'm that dumb there must be millions more like me out there!!

In reply to:
millions more like me out there
Almost certainly true
Unfortunately ISPs tend to tell people to filter all of the "phones" in the house. They don't necessarily make clear that anything plugged in to the phone socket needs to be filtered (including alarms, sky boxes, remote monitoring systems, faxes, etc, etc). And some of this (such as alarms) is often connected prior to the socket in which case you may have to get the alarm company themselves to fit a filter.

Unfortunately I have found three friends who after having Sky+ installed, had a vast reduction on the ADSL. The enginee decided to plug a dual socket into the phone socket and plug the filter into the dual socket
