Getting 6.5Mbps here

Try doing a BTw performance test to see if that shows up anything.

Same problem here (on Metronet). 6Mb down to around 130-150Kb. Upload speeds are fine. I would suggest you raise a support ticket, as I have done.

Thats the reason for your very slow speeds - more info IP profile.

At some point over the past few days you have had a very low sync - probably due to some sort of interference on your phone line.
Even now your sync speed isnt that great considering that you say you previously had a 3Mb connection.

Your sync speed depends on local conditions and there isnt anything that PN can do about that part, unless you have an actual fault on your line.

Checking your line stats may throw up an indication as to what may be going on... but at this time of year its highly likely that there is something causing Low SNR problems... xmas tree lights often being the culprit.

Have you also done a BTw performance test to check your IP profile?

Having suffered 3 months of up and down sync speeds, I have collected loads of possible solutions, my fault turned out to be the BT line, but try some of these first.

1. Unplug all phones from your house and any extension cables.
2. Connect directly to the master socket.
3. Try an alternative modem/router and splitter.
4. Switch off any Festive lights, try and persuade your neighbours to turn off theirs.
5. Reset modem regularly, I found that even when my sync rate improved I still could not download any faster until my router had been reset.
6. Compare fault with weather, mine was worse in the wet.
7. Can you hear noise on your phone line.

Happy New Year

Hi there,

I can't add anything to what Dave has said later on in this thread, but if you PM me your username or phone number I can kick the ticket back to the faults team if you like. To be honest though, the best thing to do would be to action it back to us with the details of your testing and we can raise it to BT from there.

Hope that helps, sorry for the hassle.

Your IP profile must have adjusted to the latest stable speed.

As mentioned in my previous post above it would certainly appear that something is affecting your SNR.
Did you check out the SNR problems link I posted which gives some tips on how to identify and help with this sort of problem

Thanks for the advice Kitz. been a bit too busy to work thro it all, but with the neighbours Xmas lights off - no difference !
Had a steady 900+K for several days. Up to 1200K this morning. Kicked PN again today. Their latest report on Wednesday was :
"with BOT - DSL logged Faults - Speed."
Haven't had any update since.

Regretably I have now had to pm you.
I have given PN time over the holiday period to investigate this.
I have had no reponse from PN since last wednesday when the status was 'awaiting support team answer" until today when you have closed the call without explanation or resolution.
Below is a further list of my connection speeds.
This is an appalling way to treat any customer.

In reply to:

Looks like PN have passed it over to be reported to BT as a speed problem.
Unfortunately due to the xmas hols there is likely a delay with BT engineers.

Could a PN rep just have a quick look at this and see if there is any further/updated info available?

Hi,

Sorry about that, the fault was closed by BT but has now been picked up and reraised. I'll watch this one myself for you to make sure the same thing doesn't happen again.

Thanks to all who have responded on here.
Matt Taylor at PN reopened my ticket and a BT engineer came to my house on 3-Jan.
Usual ping-pong of blame between PN and BT. even tho one owns the other.
Surprise surprise, engineer says there is no problem with my line. With everything else disconnected, I was still getting 230K. A few hours after he left I'm down to 150K. and for this I had to take a half day off work. Arrghh. PN say they'll ring me the next day, but didn't.
Then suddenly I'm back to 2.8M. and it's stayed pretty solid since. Reason - will I ever know ? I haven't made any changes.
So for now it's OK and I'm still with PN, but glad I didn't take up the discount offer to tie me into them.

As you may have seen in my responses to others posts I'm back down to 130K tonight after only one week of decent speeds. Still no explanation from PN as to where the problem lay last time.
