Does switching line rental from BT to Plusnet automatically cancel deliveries of paper copies of the BT Phone Book?

I was still receiving them after switching but I haven't had one since the 2010/11 issue so perhaps it has changed

"alternatively you can contact your own service provider, who may be able to provide you with your local Phone Book free of charge".

Does anyone know if Plusnet offer such a service, or do Plusnet line rental customers have to pay BT the full £11 if they want a paper Phone Book?

Don't know about Plusnet but when I queried my new service supplier for calls+line rental about a Phone Book the answer from CS after a couple of minutes checking was no they didn't supply a phone book.

There's "a while back" and "a while back". I thought I was still getting them but I don't think I've had one for a couple of years. It could be that the systems used for the distribution of them take a while to be updated with supplier moves.

Hasn't for me. I received one yesterday, at least a couple of months after quitting BT. Thought it was annoying and a waste, actually, as since the advent of the internet, I've never wanted a phone book, and believed I was already unsubscribed. I don't like all this stuff coming through the door, only to go straight in the dustbin. They're not such giant doorstops as they used to be, but still a waste, when the customer has never wanted or requested one.

I'm with BT and get a phone book but don't bother using it. These days the phone book covers a small radius, maybe 20 miles, so its use is limited. Its regular updating seems to be connected with selling adverts to hapless small businesses rather than providing a comprehensive listing for customers.

I left BT about six years ago and still get the phone book (latest was 2012) and a letter about once a month inviting me back!

Plusnet are a WLR supplier just like BT Retail (i.e. both Plusnet and BT Retail are Openreach "customers"), so you will be entitled to a phone book.

Ah, that's interesting, thanks. So non-delivery would be reported to the customer's line rental provider, in this case Plusnet?

Didn't look! It went straight in the bin unopened. I don't think I've needed to look in the book in ten years, so I didn't think I was taking a very big risk by not retaining it for reference.

I'm guessing by your question, though, and also by the comments on the BT website, about how they achieved the smaller book, that "microscopic" probably applies?

I'm starting to wonder whether it's my recent switch to Plusnet that has actually triggered it coming again. I was under the impression I was already opted out, as I didn't think I'd seen one for several years. Now one has come.

Maybe I need to opt out again, because existing choices didn't carry over to PN?

It seems very hit and miss as to whether Plusnet line rental customers get a Phone Book. I suspect it's regional, some places blanket "Phone Booking", some checking entitlement. Or perhaps it's just a case of some people being opted out (whether requested or not).

Would be good to get staff input on this. Failing that, I'll suggest they raise a ticket. But the link suggesting Phone Book entitlement for WLR customers is certainly helpful.

I notice that the page the link takes you to is dated just over seven years ago, so probably nothing has changed since then tongue smile

My friend got a reply from Plusnet. Essentially what Plusnet said is that whilst they probably could order a phone book at no extra cost for customers via Openreach under Plusnet's contract with Openreach for WLR, they don't have the systems in place to action this, so they can't do it. Since the terms of the Plusnet line rental contract don't stipulate receipt of a Phone Book, there doesn't seem much else that can be done.

Interesting that Plusnet are staying so quiet about this.

Given that their wholesale supplier specifically states that end users are entitled to a FREE BT phonebook I'd be very surprised if Plusnet will refuse individual requests.

Also this thread will provide information to those thinking of switching from BT. It appears that if they move to Plusnet they may lose some benefits they currently enjoy (or not).

The request for a Phone Book was refused. My friend was advised by two different CSC Analysts to buy one from BT at a cost of £10 + delivery.
