Just in case someone knows better than me or anything I can establish on the Plusnet website.
I'm a BT line customer and a Plusnet broadband customer and after BT's announced price rise thought I might shift the line to Plusnet however... It would appear that Plusnet will treat me as an existing customer so I won't get the deal on the phone and broadband package offers. On one level I understand that however, in effect, that may well mean I simply shift both to someone new which I would have thought was not in Plusnet's interest. Anyone know if this is the case (or have a way around the problem)?
I'd ring the phone number however the "current wait times are around 30 mins" made me think that didn't seem a good way to spend half an hour and posting here might be more rewarding
TIA

You are an existing customer so ordering online will not give you anything special.
However, you may find that ringing retentions would give you a good result as you could say that if you don't get a good deal (like a new customer) then you will be off somewhere else.

Your case is interesting because I switched from BT to Plusnet. In the switchover I had approx. £7.00 credit in BT account. For the last twelve months I have been getting account bills (stating the obvious that I'm £7.00 in credit) from BT, ie. they never closed my account even though I informed them I of the switchover. You have got me thinking that if I ever decide to switch back to BT they would not count me as a new customer!!

Thanks all - much appreciated
I'll ring COT in due course (& early too!) and see what I can sort out with them.

Do you have long left on your Plusnet broadband contract? Maybe you're in a position to negotiate a better phone deal with them?

I'm not sure whether or not the retentions team work weekends. Maybe someone knows. We don't want you hanging on then getting nowhere for that reason.

Yes - I need to dig around on that. I think I'm out of contract (it's over a year) but I can't recall if I confirmed that. Synchronising the two aspects may well be another issue anyway - ho hum...

Thanks again - I need to sort out timings for both aspects before I open my mouth to the COT anyway.

Line rental only from Primus £8.75 if you go via broadbandchoices.co.uk
current link: -
http://www.broadbandchoices.co.uk/offers/providers/p...
Unlike BT, Plusnet is one of a few ISPs that does not require a specific line rental provider so shop around for the best deal.

I contacted the COT back in October 2013 and switched to PN for both BB and line rental as there were savings to be made by having both with PN.
"Touch wood" not had any problems to make me regret the move so far [crossed everything smiley]

I am a former BT line and phone calls customer and switched over completely to Plusnet - my ISP since Feb 08 - in January 2014. Despite being an existing PN customer they did me a good deal on my existing ADSL2+ BB which reduced the monthly fee (for BB) to £2.50 for 6 months instead of £9.99.
Then, last month I upgraded to Fibre Optic. PN advised me that as my line couldn't manage the 76Mbps download, there was no point me paying extra for that (how many ISPs would be upfront like that?) and so they set me up on the 38Mbps download package. Given that they had introductory packages for new customers I asked what they could do for me. To my surprise they were very obliging and said as I was prepared to sign up for a 2 year contract, that they would do the Fibre Optic deal for just an extra one penny per month! Installation was free, BT Openreach supplied the modem free and I only had to pay £5.95 p&p for my otherwise free Fibre Optic Router.
My current package is:-
Plusnet Anytime Calls + Caller ID (=extra 99p), + BT Sport HD (£7.49/mo) + Fibre Optic Broadband (up to 38Mbps), all for £23.48/month + Plusnet Line Rental, which I pay annually via Line Rental Saver. That's also cheaper than BT's LRS product.
Apart from some slight drop off at busy times of the day I often seem to get the full 38Mbps down (sometimes slightly more) and 18.5Mbps up.
I have always been happy with Plusnet as an ISP and my opinion hasn't changed since I switched the telephone calls/line over to them as well.
So I would suggest asking if they can do a deal for you and see what they say.
PS: The only real fly-in-the-ointment with Plusnet is that they stil use Ofcom Market Areas to determine what customers pay, so if you are unlucky enough to be somewhere where BT is the only other provider, there will be a premium on the advertised price.

Hum - I'd like to go to Zen in many ways, I experienced their c/m service some years ago via work and they were great. Line rental is fine but looking at it they appear to only offer fibre broadband & I'm not in the market for that at present. Appreciated though - will keep an eye on them

Really useful thanks Spruance. I was going to say that I wasn't in the market for fibre but at that sort of price... I've certainly no real wish to leave Plusnet - they may not be the best but they sure as hell are not the worst (neighbour with Eclipse - "interesting" chats - c/m service appears to have not moved from where it was when I dumped them some years ago!). Certainly thinking about that before I call I think.
Cheers

Thanks - missed that. I would love to do Zen again and I realise they would be very good but for 5.99 a month Plusnet simply aren't that terrible!

As mentioned earlier there is this available from Zen: http://www.zen.co.uk/home-office/voice/phone-service...
If you don't get "the deal" from the PN COT do you want line rental and calls + BB as a bundle from one ISP or do you just want to move the LR and calls away from BT?

You can almost hear the cogs whirring...! Yes - tempting - need to dig some more I think, apart from anything else it would make synchronising line & bb easier and I realise the service would be good. - thanks Apprentice.
