A highly specialised job, that can only be done in daylight.
Maybe it involves removing and replacing a large upstairs window . (Been there, done that, installing an ICL 2960 in the 1970s).
Edit - more seriously, the timing is why I thought it worth warning/telling people

maintenance today between 9am and 5pm. O_o

I know, seems like the worst time to do work that could possibly cause an outage...
|
|
|
Obviously a lot more serious if they're doing it during peak hours. Either that or they're to tight to pay the engineers overtime

Glad if surprised to say that we enjoyed unbroken service yesterday, despite too many of these outages since we joined PN in July. Maybe PN has taken a leaf from the Met Office and warns that a light breeze may become a hurricane, just in case

Well I got this today, seems too much of a coincidence not to be related

Subject: Broadband Performance Issues (83886) - NEW
We're looking into a problem with one of our gateway routers, this is resulting in customers seeing sporadic packet loss and slow speeds.
This seems to be isolated to customers on the gateway known as PCL-AG07. If you're experiencing problems with packet loss please try logging into your router and disconnecting/reconnecting.
Our network engineers are continuing to investigate this issue and we will provide an update as soon as possible.
