Gone with p;usnet

[link to this post]

i ordered plusnet on sunday, so i hope i have done the right thing.
I also canceled my provider on Friday and that was a sad day as i really do not want to move provider.
I just hope plusnet will be up and running before i lose my broadband from my provider.

i really I have not make a big mistake in doing this.

Depends, who you are changing from and what your expectations are from Plusnet.

As a customer on their fibre product for almost two years, its generally been fine. However they've been playing up recently as of late, just hope its not a capacity issue.

A mate of mine is with Plusnet, he said most of the time it is fine, but now and again it just seems to drop speed down to ADSL speed, about 5-6Mb/s for him. I do think that it is is more to do with his wireless than Plusnet as when the speed dropped once on his laptop I tested the speed on his desktop and it was fine.

I hope they don't have a capacity problem, because that is why I am leaving my supplier.
As for what i expect, I expect a speed of at least 10-15 Mb/s, i been told i should get up to 33, and be able to do more than one thing at once without the network coming to a full stop.

I hope it is a capacity issue, that can be addressed by adding more capacity, which Plusnet does, frequently.

That is true, my current provider is going to do that, but it could take up to june/july to do it, that is if BT moved their backside.

So I hope I do not go from one provider with capacity issues to another.

For support issues. ISP appear only to support their router. Hopefully never needed

Plusnet doesn't care what router you use for support.

It is easy enough to stick their router on if needed. i will make sure theirs work first and then stuck mine on. Not enough lan ports on theirs anyway, so i would have to use my switch, more cables and plugs.

Not true. I also did not buy / pay for P&P for it. I have three routers here, the worst is a BT HomeHub 3, the second is an old Speedtouch 780WL, and my normal router is my ASUS RT-AC68U. But I could also build a linux box as a router, or just use PPPoE to my laptop in an emergency.

plusnet unlimited fibre - 2 Jun 14 - 470m - 80/20 - Summer/dry sync 55/9.4, Winter/wet sync 52/9.1
15 years broadband (1999 ntl:cable trial) - Asus RT-AC68U with HG612 - BQM - Summer PN speed - Winter PN speed

You have my sympathy if you receive the same quality of service as my subscription.
I too subscribed to Plusnet, Unlimited Fibre and Home phone which was discounted and seemed an attractive package.

One Month into the 18 Months, I'm still receiving half the Value of what I had purchased and the Home phone line is down. They blamed the BT Landline, so a scheduled appointment was required but the BT Openreach technician failed to meet this schedule, a simple SMS to my mobile would have saved some precious time, but no...............................................
If I had failed to meet this schedule, I would be charged £50 but as the BT technician failed to meet this schedule it is fine, just need to make another appointment...........?

Customer Service was very polite but absolutely useless..............
You get what you pay for................cheap is exactly what it is, cheap.

Edit: Seems that I am to eat some humble pie. There were issues but it has now been fixed.
Bt were upgrading the cables at a Green Cabinet and it still needs completion which was the reason for the issue.

Should have read ISP''s in general, only appear to support problems with their router connected. Or was when my daughter was with Plusnet. Not that connections cannot be made with other other routers. Maybe times have changed.

OpenReach have changed their site structure but here's an archived page that tells you how much OpenReach will be paying Plusnet for your missed appointment:

Does any of that payment find it's way back to the Plusnet customer's account in the form of a credit? tongue

Probably not, and dosen't do with BT retail either, unless you ask BT's HL complaints I got £10 credited, but did read about this somewhere and others have been paid around £20 for a no show, nowhere near what OR charge if the customer isn't home ,

I really wonder how someone faced with a bill for not being in at the time of an engineer's appointment would get on if they claimed it was an unfair contract?

yeah, funny how openreach consider a customer missing appointment worth twice as much as when they miss one.
