My Fibre switch over was actually done today.
Naturally the first thing I have done is a speed test (using wired connection).
BTWholeSale Speedtest shows
D/L 59.48 Mbps
U/L 0.77 Mbps
IP Profile
D/L 77.42 Mbps
U/L 20 Mbps
What might be causing my slow upload?

Both the upload and download are very poor for your connection speeds, which are in effect the full 80/20.
If you are testing using a wireless connection, try wired. If you are using Homeplugs through the mains, what specification?
Edit - Oops, I missed that you said wired. Make sure of that by turning off the wireless on your computer or better still on the router. If you connect physically wired when already on wireless not all systems switch over. At least, not immediately, within the timescale of more than one speed test.

The hard wired connection should always be the lower metric in the routing table. (netstat -r)

Hi,
I have my laptop connected directly to the router via ethernet cable, wireless on laptop is turned off.
Been looking at some of the settings and I think I must still be on an adsl connection
I have just done an Auto Setup and the router set the Transfer Mode to PTM and DSL Mode to VDSL2
With these settings I can't get a connection.
However if I set the Transfer mode to ATM and DSL mode to Auto I get the 60/1 connection.
Maybe I am simply looking too early as my switch over day is today, between 08:00 and 13:00

How would you be getting 59Mbps download on an ADSL connection?

Being left on the ADSL settings after upgrading to TFFC by Plusnet does sometimes happen, but it will only affect download speed not upload (and your download is way better than ADSL speed anyway).

My line length is 250m, maybe this shows what ADSL is really capable of given a very short line !!!
And an IP Profile allowing it to go as fast as it can !!!
No Idea! the netgear settings may suggest that...

Something weird is definitely happening.
My IP Profile is good for 80/20
My Sync Speeds are good for 80/20
But I am only getting 60/1
And my NetGear router will not connect in VDSL mode.
Unfortunately due to a no show on Wed 07-Oct by BT engineer I do not have the OpenReach modem to try.
I have "free" plusnet router and the OR modem is in the post (supposedly)
Good job I only ever intended for the PN Router/OR Modem to be a backup and I have my NetGear D6400 otherwise I would still have nothing today.

We could do with knowing your 6400 WAN settings and the full stats just copy&pasted not just what you gave us above. Preferably without the "code" surround that makes them less easy to read.

Tell me how to get them on the D6400 and I will post them.
|

I don't know the router GUI, but some may places as were the basic connection ones you found. Others may be in one or other log. It's the settings we need, rather than just the result that you posted .
It seems it has a Broadcom chipset, so with luck supports telnet. Are you familiar with telnet? This thread suggests it does, but it is disabled as supplied. The person there managed to sort it. DSLStats mentioned there is good for FTTC longterm, so worth the hassle.
As usual, be careful not to upset the DLM. Particularly in the first two days on FTTC!
This would also let you directly compare the stats from this and the Openreach modem when you get it. Assuming it is an HG612 and you unlock it. (That's a simple task).

First thing I did when I got the D6400 was to try enabling Telnet, and I found the same instrustions you just sent, but they simply did not work with the installed firmware (V1.0.0.22_1.0.22)
Just have to wait and see ...
As I mentioned earlier with the D6400 set the Transfer Mode to PTM and DSL Mode to VDSL2 and I get NO connection !!!
|
|
|
Are you setting ATM? It should be PTM.
PTM1.101:-
WAN VLAN 1.p = 2
WAN VLAN 1.q = 101
See if that helps .

1st Drop down I have is Transfer Mode
I have options of ATM or PTM
When ATM is selected I have the DSL Mode options of AUTO, ADSL,ADSL2 & ADSL2+
When PTM is selected the only option for DSL mode is VDSL2
With PTM and VDSL2 selected the connection does not log in.
With ATM and Auto I get logged in and get this 60/1 weird connection.
When trying PTM,
I have set VLANID to 101 and left Priority set to it's default of 0
Encapsulation is set to PPPoE
I know that I should be using PTM and VDSL2, but it just does not work !!!
|
|
|
It's missing that second VLANID by the look of it. Is there a field for it?
Otherwise, stuck sorry . I've been trying to go from the HG612 settings with it in bridge mode.
There is a thread somewhere on connecting it as a modem/router, which is what you have. I'll see if I can find it later, as that should have guaranteed settings.

Noticed that there was a firmware upgrade available for the D6400 (V1.0.0.34_1.3.34)
With the updated firmware I can set the Transfer Mode to PTM and the DSL Mode to VDSL and it logs in and connects
VLAN ID is set to 101 as recommended elsewhere.
The other setting is now changed to say "Priority (0 ~ 7)", leaving at default of 0
BTWholeSale Speedtest now shows :-
D/L 74.03 Mbps
U/L 16.64 Mbps
IP Profile
D/L 77.42 Mbps
U/L 20 Mbps

Yes, set priority to 2
|
|

I was going from this on the HG612:-
WAN 802.1q: Enable
VLAN ID: 101 [2-4094]
WAN 802.1p: Enable
Value: 2 [0-7]
No mention of priority there. On a different page altogether we have a tick-box option:- PTM priority:- Normal and High . Perhaps the one you have a mis-labelled? Does it show the available ranges like that?
Suck it and see might be worthwhile, but how many re-syncs have you done and any idea on error counts while it was on the old firmware? The first two days need care.

I will set the priory some time later as I dont want to upset the DLM especially in the first day !!!
|
|
|
|
You won't upset DLM on the first day, it doesn't come on untill the 2nd day.
|
|
|
It can do. Very unlikely that it will, but we don't know what the OP has been trying. On the first day of operation, DLM will intervene if severe instability is detected. Otherwise, DLM will wait until the day after provision before deciding if it must intervene ....

What I was emphasising is that if the wrong setting is causing instability then it's better to fix it on day 1 rather than on day 2.
