Indeed - if we all posted every time there was a little glitch in our speed, which could be for any number of reasons (children streaming something on the telly/tablet?) as opposed to a sustained problem, the forum would be thoroughly clogged up.

Aye, the BT area of the forum would surely be very full of posts from me.... and I consider my line to running pretty damned 'sweeet'

Well that puts me off BT. I genuinely rarely have any kind of speed variation. My TBBQMs often show evening latency but it's never had a noticeable effect. I'm guessing it's just ping packets being deprioritized rather than genuine latency. I wouldn't stay with an ISP if it couldn't give me full speed speed whenever I ask for it. PN came very close to losing me last year because I considered their service to be very poor. And that was just roughly once a month I'd have a bad night which I had to fix by rebooting my router.

I suppose losing a few meg for a few minutes once in a blue moon on single thread is very important for some....

don't know about latency, mine seems to stay very stable.... unless I'm saturating my upstream...

Can you explain how rebooting your router fixed you speed issue, that a gateway hop wouldn't (or didn't)?

Rebooting is how I change gateways. My router (much as I love it for its stability) doesn't have a disconnect option in the UI. I thus only have two ways to change gateways - unplug the router, or reboot the router. I can do the latter from the comfort of my armchair so that's what I normally do.

Auch don't worry about it bud.according to the experts on TBB we don't need more than 20Mb anyway even if it's an average size family home.
