Question re fixed line and change to maxdsl

[link to this post]

Hi All,

Thinking of moving both phone and broadband to plusnet - used to be with them when we first had broadband. We have a max speed (bt checker) on our line of 1.5m and are on a fixed 1mb service with a rock solid connection. I see plusnet only offer Max dsl - how do you think that would affect the service we get - I wouldn't want to make the connection unstable. Downstream noise margin is about 13 and line attenuation 55db.
Some advice would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Tracey

Hi Tracey,

Whilst our automated order placing system will only place orders on IPStream Max, I can manually place an order on a Fixed Rate product for you if you would like me to do so. Alternatively, try out Max and we can have you moved to a Fixed Rate product within 1 working day.

Looking at your noise margin, you wouldn't see much of an improvement to speed, but you might manage about 2-2.5Mbps.

Thanks very much James, that is really helpful. I think we'll give max a go in that case. I'll sort out our mac code and get moving

Thanks again

Tracey.

James,
On a similar vein, is it possible to 'upgrade' from fixed 512k to 1M (rather than MAX).
Reason for asking is that as my line conditions are not great (it actually used to be quite unstable although it is nearly fine now) and having read about other people experience of MAX, I feel it would be a better bet to have a fixed line speed rather than max.
for info my line stats are:
LAtt 58db
NMar typically varies betweenn 5-12db
DG834G router
Get perhaps a couple of disconnections a week which I can live with.
thanks

Hi,

It is possible to do it manually yes. Just raise a ticket, let me know and I'll try and place the order for you.

I have similar router and stats. Max is quite stable for me.
