Credit where credits due

[link to this post]

just wanted to say thanks in public for an easy, seemless, migration to plusnet from my previous isp- supanet
first of all speedtest taken tonight
http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/results/id/11964527496674649394.html

this is what i was getting previously with supanet
http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/results/id/119610583174133939.html

took exactly 5 working days, and was live at 8.04 am yesterday morning, which was good as supanet decided to cut me off earlier in the week, been excellent support on here and on the website, also emailed them yesterday afternoon to remove interleaving and it was done today, brilliant service all round for them,
thanks alot
pings are now well under 50 to alot of games i play, supanets was 150-200, and even the usage meter on the website is good, breaks it down into what youve used and how much ( can keep an eye on my wifes daytime surfing that way )

im really hoping nobody turns this into an argument on here, just wanted to post this for anybody who may be intrested in plusnet, as like i mentioned in title i believe more people should speak up about a good service and not just the problems

Glad to hear the PN experience is a pleasing one.

I've just signed up for the Pro, but I was considering leaving to go to enta but thought PN were on the up and I would stay put for 12 months

I just wanted to say thank you for the helpful postings on my other thread before things got out of hand. I'm pretty much decided on moving to PN now and the reasons are:

1. The obvious presence of PN support people in this forum and the fact they seem to be prepared to dig in and sort out a problem.

2. Cost - about 1/2 my current supplier.

3. Free domain hosting.

I just need to spend a couple of days forcasting my monthly usage, but its looking as though 3GB should do it which means an option 1 package with 2GB extra if I understand correctly. I don't think I can join with 3GB, I get option 1 then another 2GB once my account is up and running - correct?

Thanks again for swift responses, hope I will be with PN as long as with Demon (since 1994).
Cheers,
Martin

Hi there,

If you need to add more usage from signup this is possible - if you follow this link you can set the usage amount to what you prefer and then go through the signup pages as normal.

Hope that helps,

That works fine Matthew, but doesn't give me an option to enter my MAC key.
Have I missed something?
Cheers,
Martin

Once you have selected the usage and clicked continue, on the following page it asks how you wish to pay for broadband activation - if you select the option 'I already have broadband' you will be asked for the MAC during the signup process.

Hope that helps,

Hi,

you probably know these already but here are a few tips to lower your ping times:-

Use a router / hardware firewall .

This means all the firewall processing is done before it gets to your PC. This by its self will reduce your pings times. Just set the firewall to block all incoming and allow all out going connections, this would normally be its default setting anyway.

Once you have done this and only IF you are behind a hardware / routers firewall you can then turn off all AV and software firewalls on your PC for gaming ONLY. If you are on wireless or doing anything except gaming make sure your AV etc is on at all times.

By doing this you reduce the load on your PC and make network traffic to it flow as fast as you can. Also if you can connect via a network cable rather than wireless as you get a faster more reliable connection.

Joining UK servers also gives lower ping times.

By doing all the above I get ping times of around 20ms on Plusnet even on 64 player BF2142 servers in the UK.

Hope that helps !!!!!!!!

Thanks Matthew - I hadn't followed the process far enough.
Looking good now Thanks.

Martin

Just one thing with regards to the usage amounts, how does it work, does it work immediatetly, ie if im getting close to my limit, can i up usage a few gig, then change it back the month after, or does it take effect the month after changing it, and i pay the extra fixed amount for the month im on, i
was considering upping it a couple of gigs as its a fair price, but even so i dont like paying for something if i dont use it, can i wait while near my limit?
