Email delays

[link to this post]

Seeing some delays of up to 36 hrs. i.e. from Friday evening until this morning. Intermittment, some getting thro without delay. All the delay seems to be within P.N. although their 'service status' has no mention.
Anyone else ?

Hmmm. Seems to be something odd going on.

I long since gave up using PN as my primary e-mail account: since the security breach, it attracts more spam than my Hotmail and Gmail accounts put together - plus it doesn't filter half as well as either of them. So it's all but useless, as far as I'm concerned. I only keep it in case anyone from way back, who doesn't know my new address, might try to contact me there.

So anyway, it would appear I didn't receive any spam at all yesterday or today yet, which is suspicious in itself (although it's often lighter at weekends).

But more importantly, while I was trying to flag and delete the spam from Friday, I got an error message (I may be paraphrasing slightly): "Incorrect username or password. Please go to login page."

Note this was AFTER I was already logged in, and looking at my mail, so how could I possibly have given the wrong login? Does this mean that, in fact, anyone could be looking at my mail, and won't be detected until they start trying to delete any of it?

I have tried without success to reproduce the error, but definitely saw what I saw.

T.

Interesting. I had a similar password error yesterday when going into 'connection settings' after i'd already logged in.

If there's been a sudden drop in spam I wonder if it's because your account has been moved over to Postini - although I would have expected you to have received notification if that was the case. Do a nslookup on username.plus.com to check.

Morning,

As jelv has asked, if you can post (or PM me) the full headers from a few of these delayed emails then I can raise a problem accordingly and have it looked into. We're not aware of any widespread issue although the queues on the mx.lasts are a little high.

Regarding the login issue, sounds to me like an out of sync portal server but again, we're not aware of any issues at the moment so I'd appreciate knowing if it happens again.

The problem has gone away, all OK now. I've already deleted the ones affected.
Thanks anyway Bob.

Bob,

In the past all the IPs were assigned to a dynamic queue even when they were in fact static (this had big problems with ISPs like AOL that just block all incoming access from advertised dynamic IP ranges). With a static IP is perfectly acceptable (and is done by many) for there to be a MTA attached. Since PN have reported the IPs to the likes of Spamhaus, does this mean there is now a clear differentiation between the IPs dynamically allocated and those for customers with static IPs?

Always has been Vince, we've always had different subnets assigned for dynamic IPs.

I know what you're referring to though and that's still the same TBH. Like with other ISPs you'd still have problems relaying to AOL addresses etc. without using a smarthost.

I seem to remember the RIPE entries for them dedicating even the static IPs as dynamic in the past - would of been in the days when the vast majority of IPs in use where static as dynamic wasn't offered on broadband (only on dialup).
