Is it possible to keep your phone number when transferring from VirginMedia (cable) to PlusNet (ADSL)? PlusNet's website would suggest not, but they don't say why.
TIA

It is possible, but it will be up to Virgin whether they allow it or not. It is totally at their discretion, because your number is allocated to them as a cable number.
However, I managed it successfully for a client of mine about 2 months ago.
If Virgin agree to the transfer, it will subsequently require a home visit by a BT engineer (on behalf of Plusnet).
There is a cost involved for all of this - my client was charged £32, from memory, which is not that excessive by BT standards.

It's certainly possible in my local Virgin cabled area as I know people who have done it, although that was probably to a BT retail phone line rather than a Plusnet phone line.

In the case I was referring to, it went from Virgin to IDNet. They resell BT Ipstream products like Plusnet, so it ought to be okay, Virgin permitting.

Thanks.
The reply I got from VM was less than helpfull.
Plus.net say £49.99 for new line.

I transferred my NTL number to BT as a callsign and had trouble getting it back to VM.

Thanks: guess I'll have to keep banging away at VM.

If you wanna move *TO* Plusnet, then it's Plusnet that has to want to accept it and then they have to ask Virgin.
It isn't Virgin's problem, they really have no obligation or need to care.

That's absolutely right. Plusnet have to do this on your behalf.

OK. So I conclude Plusnet don't want my custom.
