Call waiting times

This amused me at 0950 this morning, waiting for customer service > 10 minutes ...

"Residential Call statistics (updated at least every 3 minutes)
Current calls waiting Longest call waiting now Average answer time today
0 0 seconds 1 minute and 17 seconds

Neat, two statements differing by a factor of 10, when only one is needed anyway.

The oddity of having two apart, all the times are of course held in binary in seconds since some arbitrary date.

There are a number of functions that convert one to a date, or the difference between two values to an elapsed time.

Now, if the latter function were dividing the elapsed number of seconds by a factor of 10 or 100 too much ..., and the two lines are using two different functions?

Which the current waiting time is using, factor 10 or 100, is something requiring empirical observation.

In fairness they've helped me out yet again this morning, so fair play to them, they get more than enough bashing on here.

Same the other day.

I have found that the call graphs that they publish give you a good idea of when to call for a minimum wait.

I have also found that the 'you may have to wait xxx minutes' can be wrong. In fact by calling during the troughs my call was answered much more quickly than the message suggested.

What would help is if they told you your position in the quede every few minutes so that you can get an idea of your progress.
