Thanks. I have done some additional btspeedtests with difficulty (it is so slow it times out) and done some other generally speed tests and it is still very slow indeed. I have raised a fault query as you suggested.
Thanks for the help.

Have you run a BT speedtest when it's running slow?

Hello
Yes, in my original post I c+p a result and get roughly that result. Occasionally it's a bit higher like 1500.
Apprentice, thanks for that info.
Cheers

Hello
Apologies for not reporting back sooner but have been away. Plusnet have been very good in trying to sort it out (though I have not been able to confirm one way or another before today whether their investigations/actions have had the desired effect).
However, things are much the same now. Here are some stats which I hope will help:
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
Download Speed
857 Kbps
0 Kbps 7150 Kbps
Max Achievable Speed
Download speedachieved during the test was - 857 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :7616 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 6500 Kbps

This is the router stats:

Resutls from BBmax speedtester is a bit variable between 1-2 Meg
As I mentioned earlier my connection and speed has been excellent for just over a year and the above has been my experience for the last few weeks.
Appreicat any help with what next. I will have a bit more time to do any testing now as at home for a bit.
Thanks.

Further to the above the exchange vP check indicates now Green
Virtual paths: Green
There are currently no known capacity problems on your exchange. There may still be an exchange problem, however BT are not currently reporting that they are aware of it. Please contact Support if you are having speed problems, who can advise further.

Here is a photo (sorry very poor quality taken on laptop cam) of the socket (s). It looks strange having the two side by side but it has always been set up as you see it since I moved here and got broadband sorted. I think the more modern looking socket is 'dead' - ages since I tried to plug anything into it but think it is dead.

This is exactly the same as I am seeing - perfect solid sync at 15mb/s. IP profile, and broadband speed of 13M
Actual downloads typically between 500kb/s and 4mb/s (sometimes but rarely getting up to the expected 10-12mb/s)
Exchange green.
I think Plusnet have some trafic management problems. I'll find out in a couple of days, when my migration to BE is complete.
