Ok, let's look at it another way...

As a trialist Conor doesn't have to have a contract. New customers do. Even though he'll pay the same as a new customer per month he doesn't have to have the contract; a distinct advantage! I'm afraid it's a case of you can't have your cake and eat it.

Hi Jojo

The difference is 60GB or 120GB a month. Since im paying the same on either could i not have the same bandwith?

The reason i want to stick with a monthly package is that there maybe a few life changes ahead and i dont want to get tied down to a set period.

He's obviously on the beta trial that people paid £12 per month to join when the free trial ended.

All the FTTC suppliers, that I've seen, are doing 18 month contracts as, it seems, ISPs have to have an 18 month contract with BT.

Plusnet are giving all trialists the choice of staying on their existing product, with monthly contract, for as long as they like or switching to new contract, with the benefits, on an 18 month contract.

ConorMK's situation is slightly different in that he's paid to be on the beta trial so he's paying slightly more than the new contract price. Hence his query.

AAISP, ADSL24, Aquiss, Eclipse, Fast, IDNet, Vispa, Vivaciti, WebTapestry and Zen all offer 12 month contracts.

I guess that monthly price could be a factor in contract length.

Looking, for example, at Zen who, as you rightly say, offer a 12 month FTTC contract the cheapest monthly deal is quoted as £30 ( ex VAT) or £36 per month. The activation fee is also higher.

Possibly.

The only ones I could find that weren't 12 months were BT, Plusnet and TalkTalk at 18 months with Timico at 24 months.

The first three are definitely at the cheap end of the market, but Timico is expensive!

Well seeing as I am already (somehow) paying more for the 60GB than the 120, I would hope not to have to pay any more!

Is that to do with your market locality?

I am in a Market 3 area. Initially when fibre was available on my line I wanted to migrate away as i didn't know i could get on the trial. I have been with PlusNet since July 2003 and I was offered a discount on the Extra package to entice me to stay. So im paying £10.40 for the extra package and £12.00 for the fibre. So this brings it more that the 120GB package that you are bringing live.

That will be sorted when the official products launch. We'll move you to the new variant, reduce the fibre surcharge to £10 and increase your usage. Retaining your retention discount might require a bit of manual tweaking though.

In reply to a post by ConorMK:
I spoke to the Customer options team and discussed the options. I could move to teh 120GB package and pay 20.40 a month but be on an 18 month contract. Currently I am on a monthly contract and would not want to move to 18 months.

As above, I'm not convinced this is the case to be honest! I'll seek clarification and provide a definitive response tomorrow though. We were planning on automatically moving people in your position to the new products, and I very much doubt that in doing so we can impose an 18 month contract on you without any prior consent! Can you PM me your username or a ticket reference from your account so that I can follow this up please?

I'll catch up with Joanne too to make sure we're all singing from the same hymn sheet.

You *would not* be expected to enter an 18 month contract. In fact you don't need to do anything, as we'll automatically increase your usage anyway (whist retaining your current discount). this should take place on your next billing date after the new products launch on the 19th.
