I think in this case the blame lies with the ISP, who appear muted on the subject.

and a call to CS allowed me to discover what username and password should be put in where.

seems good support to me
I'm trying to find out why it happened, and if it will happen again?

If you factory reset the router, or perform a firmware upgrade then it may have that username in again as that's the default one in there.

The router was simply powered up after a holiday. It was working perfectly before the holiday, and had been powered up and down several times.

Shouldn't that automatically pick up the connection details though Chris? I thought that was the whole point of TR069.

Yes, but sometimes it can take a while and on rare occassions it may not connect automatically if the ACS is down/busy. It should then forward to the 'walled garden' and prompt for login.

Thanks Chris. It had me baffled smile.

Things like that falling over now and then is not surprising - just a pain when they do.
