The only snag is that the relative strengths of the signals from other sources can be wildly different in different rooms of the house, and it is the strength where the laptop is working wirelessly that matters, if that is a different room to where InSSIDer is running.

Don't see why not, but it will still install stuff on the PC, like in the Registry. Just need to direct the install to the USB drive.

If you have a pen drive then try it. It just runs in memory, no disc accessing or anything.
