Failed Router Upgrade

[link to this post]

In a fit of over enthisiasm I decided to upgrade the firmware of my PN ThomsonTG585 v7 to 8265.

Instructions followed carefully and all went without a hitch. Alas, it just did not like the username and password that had been used for the process.

I then did a reset and hoped it would accept Administrator and a blank password. Nope!

Anyone know what the reset default should be. I'm not short on old routers but irritated that I might have made a mess of this one!

If it came from Plusnet have a look here:-

http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/hardware/thoms...

2) If you're asked to log in, enter the Router Username and Password .........
then use the link (I don't know what these are)

Newer firmware uses the serial number as the password by default. Also you sometimes need to use admin (or Admin) rather than Administrator for the login name.

PN could make it a bit more exciting by offering a router with a SIP/VoIP cinnection!

At least fiddling with things that don't need it is a lot cheaper than buying things off Ebay to fiddle with that one does not need in the first place!!

Time for a drink.......!

Let us know how you get on with the router following the upgrade. Hope everything holds up for you.

Adam, It seems fine. I only gave it a quick run out and it did not give any obvious problems. My main router is a Home Hub 2 which (according to inSSider) gives a slightly more powerful wireless signal.
