Just to be clear, there are 2 flavours of LLU:
  • Partial LLU: where the ISP "owns" only the BB. Altho' they might charge the phone line rental as well, it is actually supplied via BT Wholesale. O2 and Be and others only do this type of LLU. There is usually no charge for migrating your BB from this LLU.
  • Full LLU: where the ISP "owns" both the BB and the phone line. Only Sky and TT do this type of LLU. Often it is difficult to migrate from this type of LLU as you have to get your line back to BT 1st and there will be a charge to transfer.
It is probably about Full LLU that you read.

1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up => 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB => 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB => 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU => 2010: Orange 16 Meg LLU => 2011: Orange 19 Meg WBC

Interesting. I appreciate the information. I would have thought I was on full LLU though as I know my broadband goes through different equipment at the exchange as it did before I moved to O2. I get faster speeds now and .....Well there is something in particular that changed but I can't remember the details. What I do remember is that my actual connection speed is mostly available to me whereas before, I had less throughout available compared to the connection speed.

You are definitely not on Full LLU with O2.

You were probably on a BT Wholesale connection before where the line was limited by BT's IP Profiling system, as it will be with Plusnet. You might even have been on the "Up to 8 Meg" ADSL Max product where the IP Profiling system is even more coarse and very laggardly, rather than the "Up to 24 Meg" ADSL2+ that you are on now with O2 LLU.

Just to put your mind at rest from my last post, BT's IP Profiling system will be in operation with Plusnet FTTC but will be of little consequence smile, not like you were before O2.

Well before O2 I was on about 2.5Mb/s, so I should hope FTTC will be better. smile I estimate around 60Mb/s on my line. It's frustrating waiting for my exchange/cabinet to go live.
