Poor Speeds

I am on the 80/20 fibre service and have noticed today that the speeds are a lot slower than what I have had before.

I have rebooted my modem and router but this hasnt made a difference.

Any problems I should be aware of?

Looks like heavy downloading from 9am onwards, compared to midday yesterday onwards?

Just been on the phone to support and have tested via direct connection to the modem. Seems like the Netgear router is faulty and needs replacing. They are sending out a Technicolor to replace it.

Speed test shows connection at 73.4 via a direct connection.

And if you put the router back in the circuit, wired ...?

Speed drops down to 27mb again.

I hope you don't use wireless because the speeds via the Technicolour when using wireless are likely to be very poor.

Well, the replacement router turned up in the post today so arrived within 24 hours.

Plugged it in and allowed it time to configure. Speed test done over wires shows normal speeds again.

The wireless seems okay. Walked my W7 laptop around the house and the signal dropped from full 5 bars to 4. Not unreasonable I would have thought.

Will see how things go from here.

It looks like the new router seems to have done the job.
