Re: Cost to purchase spare router?

I think that on Plusnet's system the serial number will be linked to the original owner's account so as soon as it's plugged in it will try to auto configure.

We've seen someone with an issue on the community forums with a router that was handed on. Even though the new owner's login details were entered it kept reverting. Plusnet had to remove it from their database.

So does that mean that if you leave PN within 12 months you pay £40 for a router that is useless with another ISP?

I have bought several routers off Ebay to "play" with and they all were fine. The best was a Xoom VoIP router for 99p!!

It would be interesting to see comparisons of other router's performance as the PN ones work fine but there may well be others out there are actually better. I live in a modest house with internal brick walls and the wifi is fairly poor. Have also noticed quite a lot of dropped connections recently.

Anyone got an alternative recommendation that might be of interest to the OP too?

I use a formally PN branded TG585 v7 with a different ISP (partial LLU) although I did install generic 8.2.6.5 firmware.

It may not be possible though with later versions of PN branded routers - that's why I suggested to the OP that a TG585 v7 bought off ebay might be one possibility if PN could not supply a router free of charge without any additional commitments. Also the OP did appear to prefer a PN branded router possibly due to ease of setup etc.

There's quite a number of people on the Plusnet community forums that think the router is useless anyway, particularly the wireless performance where they've seen a distinct improvement by buying their own.

To use the router with another ISP I think replacing the firmware with standard firmware would probably be sufficient. I'll see if I can find out more.
