As I understand it, the engineer's docs should have told him which pair in the (far) cabinet the line is connected to, so he should have been able to check that physically. And with luck find out it is in the near one!

Isn't a physical check of the line cabinet indicated Adam? Before anything else at all is done? Obviously there is something wrong with the documentation/databases somewhere.

It is AFAIK RobertoS however the issue that happened here seems to have occurred prior to the visit and seems to be more indicative of perhaps a system issue or an issue with the database as the engineer did install the line at the cabinet assigned to the job and listed in their notes.

"... did install the line ...."? A new one then, not the one the OP just gave us the BTW details of? If so, the mystery clears a little .
