but the only problem is you charge a connection fee fro ADSl and then he would have to pay another one for FTTC.

There is no way an MAAF user migrating to Plusnet ADSL would be charged a connection fee.

Just a bit of a update.

My mate have now put in to transfer from MAAF to plusnet fibre service, just fibre, not phone.

They have set a a date for the 21st smile.

Cost him £50 connection fee and a few quid for postage and packing of the router, If it was me I would not bother with the router and get a different one.

Lets hope it all goes well, i really hope it all goes well overwise I will never hear the last of it.

Seems a bit odd to pay the £50 when moving the phone service would have avoided it, but I guess he has good reasons. I think you have to take the router for FTTC whether you want it or not but I'm sure that will change eventually. Either way it's a cheap spare.

Some people don't like to move their phone away from BT Retail, like me. The CS for it is excellent and the ongoing cost difference marginal.

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk | Domains,website and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - Plusnet Extra Fibre (FTTC). Sync ~ 53.7/14.9Mbps @ 600m. - BQM

he wants to stay with Bt for his phone, I have no idea why as it is used less and less these days and to be honest, i think it is costing him money as he have add ons, like international friends and family which he have to pay for and he hardly uses now.

Still it is up to him, his money at the end of the day. i just hope the change over is pretty seamless, a couple of hours without the net is ok, but any more could be a problem.

Saying that, I prefer my landline to be separate from my broadband if I was going that way.

As for the router, i think that is pretty poor if you are forced to have their router and pay for it, even if it is only a few quid. BT, sky and even Talk Talk don't charge you postage and packing for their router.

Oh well, again, not my problem, i am not the person changing over to plusnet, my mate is.

I never paid for delivery for my router from BT and I don't know anyone else who have either. My sister-in-law have had 4 routers from Bt and not paid for one of them.

If you are forced to have their routers then it should be free, other wise they should not force you to have one of their routers. noticed I said have and not use as I know that you can use a different router with BT, plusnet and Tallk talk. the only one where it can be a bit more difficult is sky.

Anyway all this giving routers away even having to pay for it is getting stupid. We are told not to waste and yet i wonder how many people got loads of routers in the house chucked in a cupboard or drawer and then one day they will just get chucked.

I know fibre requires a different router/modem, but you look at ADSL and people change to another ISP they get a new router. The same will happen with fibre once people start moving providers.

I only have to see what I have got, two netgears, one Thomson and a very old Safecom, they all work, even the safecom works great on short cables. One of the netgears or the Thomson I am giving to my brother as he only got a Lan modem.

The others i will keep just in case I go back to ADSL.

All of those I paid for, not free, but it shows how they can build up.

Time to stop all this giving away of routers, it is worse than AOL was with all their disks.

Then that must be recent as i know a few people who gone for Sky and they have not paid P&P for the router.

Another swiz, after all you sign up for a 18 month contract, it is not that you are going to go anywhere else.

Kind of makes me pleased I gone with who I have gone with and putting me of the larger ISps even more so.

i had to pay for my router for my ISp, but at least I knew and could choose, sure i could have got one from my ISP, but they only sold Belkin.
