Yes the engineer can do his job without your router but if you are like me you would probably want to check it is working yourself before the engineer leaves!!
You are still dependent on the service being activated at the Plusnet end though. I was told this happens automatically but was not given any promises about just how quickly...

Mine was certainly up and running as soon as the modem was connected, but I was upgrading from Plusnet ADSL.

got a text this morning saying that my router is in post.
hope it arrives before mondays installation...or else i wont be very impressed as i placed the order on 19-12-12 and also had to remind them of the router this monday.
Router is sent First Class post so hopefully it will arrive tomorrow. Ironically the text to say my router is on its way came AFTER the router arrived in the post
