Can we keep on topic please. (Not aimed at Mr saffron)
I am talking about the ppp session on the modem not the router. No router connected.

I would like it to match my speed tests Mr saffron. Going to do one soon but here is my line stats, now that my modem has been on for a few days. What do you make of them? To many errors or not? Thanks.

I repeat - modems don't do PPP.
I add - those are router stats.

Connection - Plusnet UnLim Fibre (FTTC). Sync ~ 54.0/14.9Mbps @ 600m. - BQM

Right this is my third and last lot of modem, router stats for a bit. I am going to go back to the ECI version later. I will also link to this for future.

Anyone know how to set this modem up to link with a router? just like how the ECI version works. the ECI is auto setup so don't need to mess about with it like the HG610..

Question: If I called PN and wanted to change my IP, would they be able to drop my PPP session from their end? Remember I can't do it my end for a number of reasons.

If not then it would be good to add that option to the members centre. Just press a button saying, drop PPP and you should eb done. smile

Stats now.

Just had a look through the telnet commands for the HG612 and don't see anything that could be done that way. As you say, there is no option in the Member Centre. They probably won't take up the suggestion as they supply routers and modem/routers where you can do it.

But?

As dropping and re-establishing your PPP session involves a loss of internet connection, is there any real drawback to just disconnecting the HG610 for say 30 seconds? That would do it, although it obviously involves a re-sync. Or has that already been ruled out for some reason.

Connection - Plusnet UnLim Fibre (FTTC). Sync ~ 54.0/14.9Mbps @ 600m. - BQM

I asked PN this morning if it is possible to drop PPP their end and apparently, they can't and have not been trained for anything like that. frown

They have opened a fault as the speed my router is telling me, i'm not getting and that includes what Mr Saffron said about overheads. If should be getting 76mbps why are my speed tests showing between 41 and 44mbps. Not expecting much and they will probably say as normal, it's fine and at PN end too.

I found this last night and just had a mess about with it.

Maybe some people can understand graphs better. From last night and now. Would be good if something like that for the ECI modem. No more of this as HG610 now going off. smile

Edit superspeed note. Should be 46-47 mbps and thats with overheads.

Speed tests show 41 to 44 because that is what you will get if you sync at

Path: 0, Upstream rate = 12799 Kbps, Downstream rate = 49390 Kbps
(copied from the router stats you posted).

Where does anything indicate the modem should get a 76 Meg connection? What was your estimate when you signed up to the service, and how many metres of cable between you and cabinet.

I have just dropped in on this thread. Why do you think it should be getting 76Mbps? Your sync speed is way below that and your speed tests seem to be pretty close to your actual sync. It looks like you are too far from the cabinet to get higher speeds.

If an engineer comes out for this then you will most likely get charged as on the face of it your line is operating as it should be (according to the stats).

This isn't surprising. At the moment, the only official equipment options are the engineer installed modems, where you always have the option of rebooting the connected device or pulling the plug between the modem and connected equipment (which should make the PPP session time out quickly).

Even with your HG610 router, you can always reboot the router if there's no way of dropping the PPP session at the command line - though doing this too often may lead to negative consequences from DLM.

I'm not the greatest expert on VDSL2 statistics, but the graphs you quoted look sensible to me. You can see the effect of the power mask on the bins up to 512 (where power is limited to avoid crosstalk issues with ADSL2+), then the bit loading follows the signal to noise ratio fairly precisely.

The router shows around 6dB signal to noise ratio margin in each band. That's BT Openreach's target figure - so your line is synchronising at the maximum speed it is capable of: your current 49.2/12.8 sync speeds and no more. This is not regarded as a fault as you have more than 15Mbps downstream, so it's unlikely BT Openreach will be persuaded to do anything about your line.

Predictions are just that - they may differ from real-life experience. Usually the BT checker is on the pessimistic side - in your case, it's been too optimistic. However, you've far exceeded the speed you say you should be getting and appear to be demanding - 76 millibits per second is glacially slow; even a 1970s 110bps acoustic coupler could beat that by a long way. (Hint: in SI prefixes a capital M is mega and a little m is milli).

41-44Mbps speed test results are in line with your 49.2Mbps downstream sync speed. You have no right to demand the predicted speed; it is just a prediction.

Of course, you won't read this reply which attempts to be helpful, because I'm in your ignore list apparently. Your loss.

Sorry that was my mistake. It should of been 46-47 mbps and like you said before. Thats what happens when your rushing about. Lol

Here is a screen grab of my line speed test when I signed up to Plusnet. So you can see for real what PN said. Blocked out number/postcode for security reasons.
